Chalet Tschingel
Location
Chalet Tschingel is situated above Wengen, on the edge of pine and maple woodland. It is a beautiful and silent spot, both in summer and winter. A large sunny area of grass is at the front below the balcony in the summer, and in the winter you are surrounded by a winter wonderland of snow covered trees.
There are four ways to reach the apartment:
Taxi – you can arrive from the station with all your luggage, virtually to the door (not all chalets in Wengen can be reached by taxi). Taxi Wegmuller (Tel:+41-(0)33 855 33 80) charges 18 Euros.
My favourite – from the cable car go towards the Park Hotel, after passing the Berghaus Hotel turn left onto the footpath above the school. At the footpath crossroads turn right. (12-15 minutes up)
The shortest but steepest route is from Da Sina’s restaurant – take the footpath straight up. This takes around 10-12 minutes including stops to admire the views of the Lauterbrunnen valley (but those younger and fitter than me can do it in 5-6 minutes!). This is the best route down – about 5 minutes, less if you are late for the 9.15 train!
The most leisurely route is from Da Sina’s – turn left, behind the Palace Hotel, and go out of the village, past the wood yard in the forest to the edge of the alpine meadows, before turning back above the village. This is the longest way and takes about 20-25 minutes.
The Frischmarkt, opposite the Sunstar Hotel, will deliver your shopping to the door. Call in on your way out in the morning and it will be delivered later for your return – after all, you are on holiday!
